It won’t happen overnight​

Hello everybody! So, with any journey, there are things you learn along the way. There will be highs and there will be lows but the main goal is to keep your focus on the prize and keep chugging along the way. 

When it comes to keeping fitness goals it is extremely important to understand that reaching a particular fitness goal will not happen overnight.

When it comes to keeping fitness goals it is extremely important to understand that reaching a particular fitness goal will not happen overnight.

So many of us falsely believe this to be the case. Especially when effort in exercising and time devoted to a specific meal plan is given. We inherently expect that the time just spent exercising will somehow automatically melt away those extra pounds and yield the proportionally aesthetic body achieved by others.

We fail to realize that it will take time to reach a specific fitness goal. Especially if extremely out of shape. We have to accept that it is with time and patience that we will ultimately better our condition and see the desired change. It is so easy to give up after only spending a short time working toward a fitness goal. The reality is we have to understand that time, patience, and dedication are needed.

I know because I personally experienced the feelings of failure and regret after not really putting forth a commitment to change. The failure that I did not stay in the grind of the week in and week out exercise routines. And regret that when the opportunity was there to devote time for fitness I never took full advantage.

Now, the mindset has changed and I am completely sold out to the lifestyle. For me, eating more fruits and vegetables and consuming less of foods high in fat helps me to feel energized and fresh each day. Learning more about how certain foods impact the human body help me to make wiser food choices. Accepting the fact that patience is key helps me know that I am closer to my fitness goal than the day before.

Sure, there were days when I questioned the process. Especially when I had a great workout the day before and did not see the expected physical change. Boy doubt definitely crept in!

But looking to others for motivation helped me to overcome! Yay!!!!

So, if you are in this predicament here are a few suggestions I believe will help you to keep your focus and stay the course toward your fitness goals.

  1. Know that you are not alone – there are many others that have to deal with the same struggles of being consistent day to day in reaching their fitness goals.
  2. Determine what your fitness goals are for you only – Understand others can encourage but only “YOU” can make it happen. Personalize those goals and own them!
  3. Develop a meal regimen – With any positive fitness goals paying attention to food consumption is a must. What you eat as well as when you eat is extremely important. Owning up to this will positively yield visible fitness results.
  4. Surrounding yourself with positivity – Just as there are focus groups for certain initiatives surround yourself with others that encourage the fitness lifestyle who can identify with the struggles.
  5. Devote time – the fitness lifestyle needs time. Make time for it. When we accepted the previous lifestyle we gave most of the time to it. Time devoted to the fitness lifestyle is a must.
  6. Read fitness material – spending time on websites that promote fitness and reading fitness material helps to educate and build your fitness IQ. Feed your mind with positive fitness material whether it be YouTube, a magazine, or a specific website.
  7. See yourself meeting those fitness goals – With any successful company, there is a mission statement. That mission statement helps to guide the company. Meaning all teams, districts, divisions, departments, and regions develop a plan to promote the overall company’s mission. Do the same! Develop a mission statement that says “I will promote and encourage fitness for me. I will read to educate myself, I will eat foods that encourage a healthy heart and promote clear mental thinking. I will reach my fitness goals by spending time exercising.

Although this is not a complete list, these are just a few suggestions to help you lock it down when it comes to meeting your fitness goals.

I do want to mention I am no professional but one that shares and encourages a positive life and health experience in others.

So this third submission may take a bit of creativity! Let me explain.

You know how it is when day to day you see your friends or family member while doing whatever it is you do. If that is at work then day to day you go to work and fulfill your duties. I would assume this is common since most have some sort of means to keep the income flowing.

You rise and get ready. You travel to wherever it is you go. A service is performed and then you travel back. When you get back to your home there is something different. You find a gift! It may be flowers? Or an affectionate card?

Have you ever been the recipient of such affection? If so then you know the psychological effects.

Keeping the relationship interesting instead of the monotonous day to day activities offers a consistent spark that affects the psyche. Whether dealing with a friend, a family member, or a partner keeping things interesting is essential.

Below are a few ways to keep a relationship fresh and intriguing!

Keeping it interesting means one:

  1. Keeps the relationship lively.
  2. Keeps it feeling fresh and unique.
  3. Keeps all parties feeling special.
  4. Defends off the wandering mind.
  5. Promotes a consistent passionate state of mind.

How to keep interesting you ask?? Well, try these.

  1. Speak affection Often but not Overly done! Say how much the other means to you personally.
  2. Send affection attention items! Flowers, a nice card, an affectionate text, or a selfie picture.
  3. Have a mind to always show interest. Distance should not dampen the affection between you both.
  4. Use technology to send passionate notes.
  5. Note on a calendar the time of a “call” date.

These and others are just a few ideas that can keep the physical distance between friends and family seem nonexistent.

Not to be overlooked and more importantly is never forget to invest in the relationship by putting forth the effort of thoughtful time.

The thoughtful time spent will keep it all the more interesting!

Launch

How many times have you heard this? You can do whatever you set your mind to do! Well, I believe we all have at some point during our growing years heard this from those who are the closest to us.

I can hear parents encouraging their kids to press and believe in whatever you set out to do.

If it is a doctor then be it, if you choose to be an astronaut then do it if that is what you choose to do.

These words can easily be replaced with the emphatic word Launch“!

Do whatever you set your mind to do. There will be obstacles and times that make you think twice about going after your dream but if you set your mind to do it over time it will come to fruition.

I can hear a parent giving the analogy of what it takes for the successful Launch” of a spaceship into outer space.

Well, son/daughter, there is much preparation that goes into the successful Launch of a spaceship.

  1. The astronauts have to go through training for the difference in atmospheric pressure which will affect their body weight.
  2. The astronauts have to train eating a different food for sustenance while in outer space.
  3. The astronauts have to train to handle the workload because of the difference in atmospheric pressure.

These points and others would be referenced to the child in order to give a picture of what would be needed and expected.

The parent would explain that just as the astronaut needs to train in preparation for the difference in atmospheric pressure, he likewise should train expecting that there will be obstacles to overcome while on the pursuit of his/her goal.

The parent will also note that your trials will be unique for you! Just as the astronauts’ food is uniquely made for consumption and sustenance the trials and test you endure will better prepare you for success.

Lastly, the parent would note that while on your pursuit expect the workload to be challenging! Because of the responsibility and weight of the job you must train to handle it.

Remember a lot goes into a successful Launch!

You have what it takes, just set your mind to it.

Separation?Hmmm?? Communication is Key!

Communication is vital in any connection. Just think about it. In order to know what another is doing or for them to know what you are doing, a line of communication must be maintained.

This reminds me of  the old cup and string trick. First there is a medium by which communication is made possible and at least two people on either end. Audible tones are then able to be sent via the cups and string arrangement.

In much the same fashion an individual has to continue communication with others, whether family or friends. It can be too easy to focus on the job and lose site of the fact that because you are no longer there physically you can be easily forgotten. The old adage of “Out of site out of mind” can quickly be a reality if not defended against.

Communicating is a sure fire way of maintaining interest. Whether through phone or internet a way can be made.

Technology today has opened the door for there to be more ways of communicating compared to just the use of the telephone of old days.

Here are just a few:

  1. Emailing friends and family is good way to keep in the know. There is a bit of privacy here along with a chance to write out  any details. This can be handy when handling upcoming engagements that require details. The best advantage it offers is speed. Regular mail can have a serious lag in time which can thwart plans if time sensitive information is needed.
  2. Regular mail is an oldie but goodie trusted system. If time is not important then this is the way to go. Details can be written out and it offers a bit of privacy.
  3. Using social media- This has definitely increased in popularity over the last ten years. This form of communication offers lots of benefits. Not only can a message be sent to one person but several in a group if chosen. This medium allows for pictures and video clips to be sent too. The main advantage here also is the speed at which information can be sent. Almost in realtime friends and love ones can enjoy seeing messages and video clips quickly.
  4. The use of the cell phone. Cell phones as with computers are in just about every home today. This means as technology has grown individuals across the world are more likely to own or have a cell phone. This quickly translates into making a quick call to a friend or family to keep them updated as to “what’s going on in their world!”. The advantage here is that calls can be made quickly.

Of course these are the obvious forms of communication. If any are missed please feel free to add.

So with any separation the challenge is there to maintain as best as possible some normalcy to the situation that affects all involved.

Communication is definitely a key component in helping all parties achieve that.

Relocating? Don’t fret! Its all in a good plan.

So have you ever had to move away from familiar surroundings due to job related responsibilities?

I mean having to relocate and leave behind those who are familiar and dear to you.

Although this may seem far fetch to some, today this is an all too common scenario.

Today, companies are expanding due to business ventures and in some cases require employees to relocate for a bit to ensure the company gets a foot hold wherever they are.

If this is your case don’t fret. Here are a few tips that can help you stay connected and still feel apart of the family.

In the coming month I will suggest in a four part weekly series ideas to help you feel connected, maintain communication, and keep focus.

Relocating for however long for one can be nerve racking. This can be doubly stressful when family is involved. The pressure is even elevated when there is no plan. Just as with any task or venture a good plan is a must. This is why!

A good plan covers:

  1. What your dealing with now?
  2. How you plan to address the issue if any?
  3. Where do you plan to go?
  4. How do you plan to achieve the goal?
  5. Who is going to be affected and
  6. When do you accept the decision?

Think of it this way. When a business wants to expand there is much preplanning. A detailed financial analysis is conducted to determine whether the expansion will be worth it. So all associated cost are assessed, a site visit is conducted, and a competitor analysis is reviewed. This of course is just a few of the criteria used to validate the expansion. Every company has its formula.

Now, in much the same fashion one must conduct this sort of analysis to come up with a plan. One has to:

  1. Determine whether the move will financially increase the position.
  2. Assess all costs associated with the move.
  3. Involve others who have made a similar move to garner related information.
  4. Investigate site to assess any concerns.
  5. What are the native cost of living concerns.

There are of course other questions but these are enough to get the ball rolling in developing a plan.

Spend time with your family or friends and talk about it. Getting all concerns out on the table helps to address any potential issues.

Remember this is a decision that impacts not only you but others who are tied to you financially. So, being open and honest as well as welcoming all thoughts can make an otherwise stressful event more accepting.

Is this your Time?

For some this time of year is what they have been waiting for, especially after dealing with the extreme heat and humidity of the summer. The relief of the weather alone can be exciting.

For some, this time of year is what they have been waiting for, especially after dealing with the extreme heat and humidity of the summer. The relief of the weather alone can be exciting.

Others are excited cause this time of year brings special memories. These memories may bring to light special family engagements or unique friendship moments.

What makes this time of year fun for you? Is it

  • The changing weather. Imagining the cooler nights?
  • Schools back in? Oh Oh, this might or might not be.
  • The changing color of the leaves?
  • The advent of certain professional or amateur competitive sports?
  • The onset of October and pumpkin fever?
  • Certain foods for the time of the year?

I find it to be an interesting time of the year because of how nature reacts. Have you noticed the trees beginning to shed? What about the leaves? This time of the year reminds me that winter is coming.

Although I am personally giddy about the previously mentioned list, the chill in the night air lets me know that winter is around the corner. Not that I am excited about winter but the time reminds me that I need to address a few winter prep items.

  1. Is the car winterized (tires, right fluids)?
  2. Is the yard pretreated against weeds for the upcoming next year?
  3. If you have a home, is it winterized? The furnace working properly? Certain winter foods stored for the times’ bad weather immobilizes you?
  4. Proper winter clothing? Does it need to be addressed?

As a special note, I do not want to be insensitive to those of you who have lost loved ones around this time. Words cannot fully express the sadness of your loss. It is with the utmost respect that I write this.

Enamored! Really?? It’s a matter of perspective.

It is difficult to be enamored in anything today; especially life. This could easily be the statement made by someone today given the current world conditions. The question is from what perspective is one making the statement?  Is it from a well to do background or from one that is not so great? 

It is difficult to be Enamored in anything today; especially life. This could easily be the statement made by someone today given the current world conditions. The question is, from what perspective is one making the statement?  Is it from a well to do background or from one that is not so great?

Is it from a well to do background? You know, the lifestyle where one practically has anything that is wanted at their fingertips. If it is so desired it will be had. Procuring the funds to have that which is desired is no obstacle.

The not so great background may come with some challenges. Challenges, where the money to procure things, may not be as available.

So, Enamored ??.………It depends on your perspective.

Let’s not think that being in the position of well to do is all that fabulous. It comes with its own challenges.

  • others(family) expecting you to give hand outs because you are in that position
  • hard work to get there??? Do others know about that???
  • the effort spent in maintaining the business(position) against competition, fraud, taxes.

For the not so great background, things may appear more obvious.

  • living from paycheck to paycheck
  • basic health care and sustenance for the family
  • a system that inherently relegates a people to a predetermined lower social position.

As you can see, although the position encompasses different circumstances one can still have an objection.

In the end, one simply has to be an overcomer to be Enamored enamored in anything. Although

different circumstances but in a way, the same, one must overcome a challenge, an

obstacle or anything that may be a mountain. Only then can one be Enamored in the things of this life.

Magnetic! Who KNEW!

Who knew? So many things where the opposite attracts. Take for instance the mallard ducks. The female duck is not as colorful as the male but designed for a  purpose.

Of course, we know of the North and South Pole how the opposite poles allow for magnetic energy to flow which in effect manipulate earthly weather patterns.

Let’s not forget about male and female and the differences that open the door for there to be an attraction or shall I say something magnetic.

What is it about being magnetic? Well from just a few examples:

1. there is a difference in physical make up

2. there is a purpose in not being the same

3. the opposites have a connection

The female mallard has been designed with a color that is low-key and helps her to be camouflaged from any enemies.

Outside of the The North and South Pole being physically opposite of one another the unseen electromagnetic field connection help to stabilize global systems.

And of course, the opposite attraction between a male and female provide for offspring that increase the population.

So the magnetic attraction of opposites can be obvious.

Stay True to your GOAL!

we’ve all been there

Hello, All! So check this out! Every day the goal is to provide a pleasant and delightful experience to anyone that may cross your path. No matter who or what one may encounter the goal should be to be an encouragement. At least this is my personal goal.

That being said, do you ever find that to be difficult. I mean to focus daily on being that person who provides a positive experience for all who cross your path. Besides conquering one’s own challenges, the task can be disheartening when the benefactor does not seem to benefit.

I know we have all been there. Providing positive guidance every day to all including the individual that obviously needs special attention. I mean it is that individual who kinda rubs everyone the wrong way.

Every day is about them! Their whole thought process is focused on not togetherness but individualism. When you encounter them the conversation is always centered around not assuming responsibility for issues but blaming others. It can definitely be disheartening. Especially when all available help has been afforded to the person.

One of the most gratifying things in life is to be in a position to help others and see that help benefit someone. That help can be a word of enlightenment, assisting in a move from one location to another, encouragement in reaching a goal or getting through a test, a warning to a particular bad behavior exhibited that could lead down a bad path, or simply motivating someone to have a good morning. The benefits afterward can be quite rewarding!

At the end of the day, I guess it can be said that staying true to yourself is what matters. If you know you have done all to provide a thoughtful positive experience to whomever, you can be at peace.

Sometimes we just need a reset!

Welcome back! So, I had some trouble with my phone and after asking a few questions during my investigation it led me to guess what? A reset!! Who would’ve thought just a simple reset of the phone would help clear the issue. Well, I did not but I understand the concept. For those who may not follow I’m referring to the action of just powering down and powering back up of any device. In this case my phone.

What I am referring to is that through this life there will be times we just need a reset. Life for some can bring a variety of challenges ranging from managing food, navigating family concerns, dealing with medical circumstances, and overcoming substance abuse. Whatever the challenge one must find a way to reset.

The need to reset kinda goes like this. When my phone acted up I could not get the touch sensor to respond. It sorta froze up to where it would not respond. No matter the length of time I gave it to recover there was no response. This is sort of the same thing that happens to a computer when it does not respond after may be opening too many applications and performing too many operations too quickly.

Well, if this happens the solution many times is to give it a hard reset meaning the device has to be turned off and then back on. When this happens, the internal device operating programs are given a chance to realign themselves. This, in turn, causes most of the time the remaining sub programs to follow suit. Kinda like puzzle pieces that fit together properly.

Knowing this, the mind can be introduced to lots of information. Productive and encouraging things as well as non-productive and negative things. The challenge is to remain focused and on point to that positive goal which has been set. Over time there is a chance one can get over whelmed by what is seen as opposed to what is believed and ultimately lose sight of the original goal.

A reset can be a mechanism that helps one to refocus on the goal and place all in the right perspective. Maybe it is a time you spend reading your favorite motivational author alone, maybe it is going on a special retreat alone, maybe it is embarking on that physically demanding trip or contest alone, or simply spending time away alone where one can reconnect with his God.

In all, the intended result is to come out a better being with a renewed focus, an enlightened heart, a rejuvenated mind, and a refreshed spirit.

Once a year, I embark on a reset. I encourage my mind and body by spending time reading positive spiritual material and I also reset the physical body by fasting. Both do wonders for the mind and body. The reading reminds me of whats important in this life while the fasting helps to reset and rejuvenate the internal workings of the organs and systems.

So, if you encounter life’s challenges and sometimes need to refocus on your goals a reset is maybe what you need.

So Why The Change

With todays ever changing food landscape it is important to be flexible when it comes to investing in ones health.

Hi, everyone! Hope you had a good week! I did! Busy, but went well. So why is it that I promote healthy eating you ask? So why the change? Well, let me share a story.

Some years back I adopted a particular lifestyle routine. It was busy meaning I had a regular job, very little sleep, some exercise and a diet that included eating fatty foods; pizzas, burgers, and plenty of processed foods. My energy level was quite low which resulted in me wanting to sleep all the time.  Although I rested for a good seven to eight hours, I still felt a bit fatigued. Shortly after I started a day and had a cup of coffee I noticed drowsiness setting in. In addition, I noticed my clothes fitting a bit tighter every where. This situation did not make me feel good about myself at all.

So after feeling like this and realizing this was not a healthy condition I decided to make a positive change with regards to my health. I concluded I did not want to feel sluggish anymore and wanted to lose the weight. This led me to seek expert/professional help, change what type of foods I was consuming, include supplements, and develop a physical fitness regimen.IMG_1915

The change resulted in a complete body change from the inside out. The guidance helped me to get educated on the internal workings of how our body works with regards to it digesting foods and the intended purpose. That information led me to replace and include certain foods in my eating regimen. This allowed for my internal digestive mechanisms to metabolize food more efficiently in order to get that maximum nutrition. I developed a physical fitness regimen which helped me to increase my metabolism to burn off excess calories. Lastly, supplements were included to help offset the loss of nutrition in foods today along with the increased loss of fluids during extreme physical fitness. So that’s why I changed.

If your story is like mine that is good to know. This means we both understand the dilemma and that we are not alone as we might have thought. Set a goal and understand there is a way to enjoy life to the fullest.  It is waiting for you to make that decision.  Remember to never be complacent but always be willing to change. Eat Smarter, Live Well!

Is it really about what you eat??

Hello there! Welcome back! As promised I want to share a bit about what my lifestyle entails. One of the things I have learned to accept with a positive outlook on life is the fact that we are what we eat. Before I go to deep into this lets just look at what should be obvious to us today. Foods today are not what they they were say in the early 1900’s. Our culture was one that lived on farms and grew most foods. Whether it was cattle, grain, or vegetables society mainly ate from the fruit of the land with very little manufactured processing. Consequently, most foods kept a majority of their nutritional value. This in turn helped mankind to consume a high concentration of foods with plenty of vitamins and minerals.

Fast forward to today, there are far fewer family owned farms and most foods are processed. Advanced processes in agricultural technology have been the main cause; allowing for greater and quicker yields that are insect and disease resistant. As a result foods today appear to have lost a bit of the full nutritional value to be offered and replaced with fillers.

So with this, one has to eat smarter meaning they must educate themselves about what is consumed. Taking the time to do this will not only reward one with the self-satisfaction of doing well but also reaping the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Eat smarter and live well I say!IMG_3593Personally, I’ve benefited from eating healthier!  From feeling sluggish all the time with no energy to being alert and vibrant I attribute most of the change to eating healthier. This means eating less processed foods to consuming more organic-prepped based foods. A quick way to gage this is just look at the label. Are there ingredients on there you cannot pronounce? Hmmm? Far cry from just your plain descriptions.

Let me remind you though, that it has been a journey not always covered with rosy petals. I have had to learn over time what promotes a healthy lifestyle and what works against it.  This is what I stress. Do what fits you and promotes a healthy lifestyle so that you:

  1. Can enjoy your family
  2. Family can enjoy you
  3. Share your ideas
  4. Enjoy travel, reading, sports, bike rides, plays, walks in the park!

It’s up to you to find out what that is. For some, it may take a few trials or a few unpleasant circumstances. That is ok! That’s life! Life’s situations whether good or bad are all designed to make us into what we are to become.

Just think of the butterfly. In it’s earlier stages of being a caterpillar it does not have the ability to fly but as time and circumstance unfold it breaks forth as a beautiful butterfly.

We follow the same in life. When we are born into this world we take on an original form not intended to last our entire life. Over time we encounter life circumstances that are designed to mold and shape us into what we are intended. A beautiful butterfly.

Meaning I have found along the way certain foods that have provided maximum nutritional value while minimizing those compounds that can be counterproductive to reaching fitness goals.

In short, there are foods with high calories. These include foods that are high in fat, offer plenty of sugar, are low in fiber, and do not offer much in the way of nutrients. Most of these can be categorized as processed foods.

On the other hand, there are foods that offer just the opposite. They are high in fiber, provide plenty of essential nutrients, offer good fat, and yield naturally occurring sugar.

One of these such foods is the apple. It offers plenty of fiber, provides its own sugar, no fat and is loaded with essential nutrients. Check out its nutritional value!

So how has it helped me you ask? Well

  • It has helped me to maintain regularity. Yep. Just as it is important to eat well it is extremely important to have good evacuations. Cause we just don’t want anything to hang around that does not need to be there after its used. Kinda like reusing old engine oil that has lost its viscosity. Not good— can lead to excessive friction and heat.
  • I mentally know I am eating a healthy snack which does wonders for my confidence.
  • I am receiving a good source of Vitamin C with no sodium which helps to fight against hypertension.
  • I am receiving the naturally occurring flavonoids which help to contribute to the antioxidant properties which studies show to fight against certain cancers.

These reasons alone help me to know I am contributing positively to my fitness goals of getting lean, increasing my fiber intake, and building my overall fitness confidence.
